“Festival Trees” Environmental Art Sculpture

Environmental Art Sculpture

Temporary Art Installation

Festival Trees is a temporary environmental sculpture using living trees, and coinciding with the fifteen days of the Chinese Spring Festival. The sculpture is an exploration and interpretation of cultural traditions, a celebration of the return of spring and a fresh start to the New Year.

The idea of wrapping trees is based upon a unique Asian horticultural practice of using hemp to protect the trunks and branches of newly transplanted trees. The bright red colour creates a dramatic abstract texture against the backdrop of our cold Canadian winter and is a symbol of good luck and hope for the future.
