A playscape featuring dynamic play and learning opportunities
The layout of the rolling hills and berms surrounding the adventure playscape is inspired the Metatron cube, or “Flower of Life”. The center features loose parts that children can manipulate, control, and move to create endless new play experiences. Loose parts or “adventure playgrounds” stimulate curiosity and gives children free reign to create new and interesting play environments. One of the best ways to enhance children’s natural curiosity is to provide a wide variety of the materials into their play settings.
What Are Loose Parts?
Loose parts are objects and materials that children can move, manipulate, control, and change while they play. The materials come with no specific set of directions, and they can be used alone or combined with other materials. These objects invite conversations and interactions, and they encourage collaboration and cooperation and promote social competence. All of these are highly valued skills in adult life today.
- Key challenge: Creating an environment which is both safe and creative within a limited construction budget.
- Best Feature: Children can redesign, combine, and disassemble pieces of the playscape in almost endless combinations.
